A set of four sculptures scattered along Wood St in Mackay’s town centre, Brian Robinson’s Urban and Deco Blooms add a vibrancy to the tropical streetscape. Comprised of Urban Bloom I, Urban Bloom II, Deco Bloom I and Deco Bloom II, the set draw on the culture, history and natural landscape of the local area. The specific patterns, colours and forms Robinson use reference the art deco heritage of the town, the architectural forms of local native plants and the playful patterns worn my many locals.
Made from stainless steel and finished with two pack paint, the public are able to interact with them as they provide light and a place to sit. A project that had challenging timelines, we’re proud of the quality of the work we produced in conjunction with Brian Robinson, CREATIVEMOVE, Artspace Mackay, Mackay Regional Council, Vassallo Constructions and DCO Consulting.
