Rise
Welcoming visitors and locals, Sebastian Di Mauro’s public artwork, Rise stands proud at the entrance to the Lake Street precinct in Cairns. Commissioned by Cairns Regional Council as part of the City Centre Alive Project, the work incorporates themes of the reef and rainforest.
Rise is comprised of two sculptural elements made from 12mm grade 316 stainless steel. The plates were shaped and polished and finished with a two pack internal paint finish. Inspired by the Conch shell found throughout the Great Barrier Reef and the exotic heliconia, the work champions and celebrates the unique and vibrant natural environment of the region. Rise was made possible by the collaborative efforts of artist Sebastian Di Mauro, Jodie Cox of One Space, Mike Mooney of Stainless Aesthetics, Josh Abel of The Artificial, Damian O’Mara of DCO Consulting Engineers and Simon Suckling and Jez Clark of Cairns Regional Council.
